Welcome to Gameweek 2 Captain tips – Fantasy Premier League. Hope you got a nice return in GW1, but if you didn’t there’s still time to make things right. Let’s start with a strong captain pick. This is a really important aspect of any managers FPL success. This is why I am bringing the handful of captain tips for you to consider.
Gameweek 2 Captain tips – FPL’s best choices
My main captain tips for last week were Aguero, Mahrez, Vardy, Ibrahimovic, and Kane. Three of them returned points so I am happy with that. Vardy was a bit unfortunate not to score. No time to look back though as GW2 starts on Friday night. This leaves us less time to tinker, but at the same time, we will be spared of Friday night madness. Let’s see what are the options for FPL gameweek 2.
Ibrahimovic looks like a good captain choice again. United welcomes Southampton and judging by Mourinho’s home record throughout the years, winning shouldn’t be a problem for Red Devils. Ibrahimovic started well with his new team and while it lasts, it makes sense to give him an armband. He can score, but he is good at distributing quality passes in the final third as well. With a high ownership and popularity at this point, you can’t go wrong with Ibra.
I would also like to mention Martial. He returned big at Bournemouth and he can be a nice differential. But he was very inconsistent last season, so I would advise caution as it could backfire easily. On the other hand, Pogba should take part in this match finally. At this point, it is not clear whether he’ll start or not, but I would wait with him for a while.
I am tipping Harry Kane again. This time, he should have a better chance to score when Palace comes to WHL. This team started on the wrong foot, losing a home opener and their confidence should be affected. Spurs drew their opener at Everton, but this is the one they should win. Lamela was their scorer last week, but Kane remains their best attacking option. He needed a lot of time to get it going last season. Hopefully, he returns in gameweek 2 this season.
Considering the fixture ease factor, I would also like to mention Eriksen and Lamela as viable FPL captain options in GW2.
I will put some faith in Mahrez again. He converted a penalty to award FPL managers who captained him last week. This time, he faces Arsenal. You would think that this is not the best time to captain him. However, Arsenal is yet again in panic mode after an opening day home loss. Their defense is the problem. Koscielny might return, but Gabriel and Mertesacker are still out. Chambers or Holding are just not adequate replacements. Leicester is wounded by the loss at Hull and I expect them to come out strong. Mahrez is on penalties and he is the go-to guy for the Foxes. I fancy him to get on the scoresheet again.
While the trip to Stoke might not be the best fixture for City, you just can’t avoid Aguero in any FPL captain discussions. He is an amazing player and truly an FPL diamond. He scored a hat-trick midweek in European competition and he failed to convert two penalties in the process. That’s amazing stuff. While there is a concern that he might loose penalty taker role, there is just too much value this guy has.
As a captain differential from City, you might even consider Sterling. He appears to be playing well in Guardiola’s system. It is too early to tell, but he does have some potential.
Firmino started up front last week, which is awesome for his owners. What was a lot less awesome is the fact he failed to score despite Liverpool recording 4 goals against Arsenal. However, Firmino looks like the most consistent attacker in Liverpool team, and he should be a good captain pick in this round. Coutinho and Lallana just can’t be trusted in the long run if we learned anything from last couple of seasons.
FPL GW2 captain – honorable mentions
At the end, I would also like to mention a couple of interesting FPL captain options. Just to give you some food for thought. Siggurdsson should be back and ready to fire against Hull at home. Despite a nice home win over Leicester, Hull shouldn’t be trusted away at Swansea.
Diego Costa has a good chance of scoring again at Watford. This team might need some time to fully embrace Mazzari’s tactics and I feel Costa will be able to find the net. At the same time, Chelsea will need more time to fortify their defense. Deeney and Ighalo should be very busy. Captaining one of them could be a shrewd move.
Payet has been such a popular captain pick last season. He was also on target against Bournemouth. However, West Ham has injury problems, which could affect the entire team. Payet might need some more time to get in the last season’s groove as well, but Bournemouth at home does seem like a good chance for a solid FPL return.
There you have it, this is a list of my Fantasy Premier League captain tips for gameweek 2. Hopefully, the highest scoring player is on this list. I tried to pick proven in form players for this list. Hope you enjoyed it and best of luck in the GW2.
