Top 5 FPL captain picks for GW3

Sanchez triple captain material

Gameweek 3 captain tips is my new Fantasy Premier League article in the captains category. I’ve got fresh new set of tips to help you choose your captain wisely.  In this post I identified 5 possible candidates. All of these players have nice fixtures more or less and are very important players in their respective teams. My captain suggestions for GW2 were not 100% successful, only Aguero and Ibrahimovic were on target. Let’s do better in gameweek 3. Following are the 5 players I identified as best FPL captain picks GW3.

FPL captain picks for GW3 – List of top 5

Erik Lamela

I had Kane on my list last week, but until he starts producing I will leave him out. He had a sluggish start to last season as well, so there’s nothing new I guess. Instead I will back Lamela to have a good game on Saturday. He looks good early in the season and I really like his chances against Liverpool. Their defense managed to concede 5 goals in just two matches played. Enough said there. Obviously, Klopp will look to remedy defensive problems, but not much can be done in a short span. He tried with Milner as a LB following a disappointing Moreno performance, which didn’t really solve anything. Conceding two at Burnley is hardly justifiable. However, they didn’t play good offensively as well. This is something that needs to be addressed too. Picking Lamela as a captain tip for gameweek 3, I am hoping Liverpool will look to get a result by outscoring Spurs. In that case There will be a lot of space for Lamela to shine.

Coutinho

Having stated above that I expect an open game, Coutinho makes a lot of sense as a captain as well. Liverpool can score goals like they demonstrated against Arsenal. Last week was not such a success, but Liverpool has enough talent to score at WHL. They also have a wide array of players capable of scoring. However, Coutinho has the highest ownership and probably best chances to score among Reds attackers.  He’s not afraid to bomb from the distance. Firmino and Mane are both worth mentioning as well. Bottom line is, if you are not afraid to captain a player involved in the earlies match of the round, Lamela and Coutinho represent a nice value from these teams.

Eden Hazard

Hazard returned in both matches so far and I like his chances against Burnley. His ownership is rising fast but he shouldn’t be extremely popular captain pick in FPL gameweek 3. With Aguero and Zlatan on fire not many of his managers will trust him. This could make Hazard a decent differential. Good home fixture makes him attractive captain pick. Chelsea is playing to win under Conte and it is working so far. Hazard seems to be slowly but surely finding his form from early days at Chelsea. If you for some weird reason don’t own Aguero or Ibrahimovic, or don’t expect them to return this week, Hazard can be a good captain option.

Sergio Aguero

Aguero is a no brainer really. You can’t go wrong captaining him against West Ham. I offered some captain alternatives above, but owning and not captaining Aguero in gameweek 3 doesn’t look like a good choice. He scored 3 league goals so far and home match against the Hammers seems like a good opportunity to increase his goal tally. West Ham barely won a home match against Bournemouth and their long list of injuries won’t help either. City should be able to win without much effort. This West Ham team does not look capable of endangering big teams like last year. Aguero is the one likely to return. Nolito and Sterling are emerging as nice differentials,  but not captaining Aguero is likely going to hurt you…

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

…unless you plan to captain Zlatan. This guy keeps scoring goals. Next match, in gameweek 3 is away at Hull. While Hull has been the most pleasant surprise thus far, it is still early. Plenty of time and matches to go. They should stumble and fall sooner or later. Their health bill is pretty poor which means they do not have plenty of rotation options. Same cannot be said for United. Getting Pogba on board should only make Zlatan more dangerous. While I feel like Pogba could steal the show on Saturday, there is no reason to doubt Zlatan. He is more than capable of scoring again and with such a high ownership, you can’t go wrong with him as a captain.
